Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time
February 5, 2012
|
ASH WEDNESDAY IS ON FEBRUARY 22
The suitable way to dispose of our old, blessed palms is to burn them or bury them.
For the next 2 weekends, you are invited to bring to Mass your blessed palms from last year. You may leave them in the baskets in the Church vestibules.
The palms will be burnt in the Shrove Tuesday Ceremony at the school on Tuesday, February 21 to make ashes for Ash Wednesday.

Please download Archbishop Wenski's letter below. It concerns a serious threat to our religious freedom given the unprecedented mandate issued by Health and Human Services that would require Catholic institutions and employers to pay for “services” that violate our conscience. This is a serious threat to our hospitals, schools, charitable institutions and (since most diocese, like the Archdiocese of Miami, operate their own self-insurance programs) this mandate threatens our ability to provide an insurance product to our employees that does not violate our consciences and our Catholic teachings.

SCOUTING SUNDAY
February 5th at the 9:30 Mass
The Scouting units chartered by Holy Rosary - St. Richard Catholic Church invite the Community to join us at the 9:30am mass on Sunday, February 5th to celebrate Scout Sunday.
The Boy Scouts of America designates the Sunday that falls before February 8 (Scouting Anniversary Day), unless the 8th is a Sunday, as Scout Sunday, which is the primary date to recognize the contributions of young people and adults to Scouting. The Scout Sunday tradition was started to make people in church aware of Scouting, and to allow Scouts to live out parts of what is pledged each week. The Scout Law says that a "Scout is Reverent" and the Scouts of all ages promise to do their "Duty to God".
These values strengthen youth character in their family, community and faith. More than half a century ago, the Boy Scouts of America and the Catholic Church drew up a plan of cooperation, which is still working well. The Church recognized Scouting as a program that provides rich, educational experiences and essential character enrichment. At the same time, the Boy Scouts of America realized that its vision demanded strong spiritual support, and the Church is the provider of this support. In recent years, as the Catholic Church developed its apostolate to youth more fully, it became known as youth ministry. Scouting is a significant part of this ministry. ~~~~~~ The Scouts Venture Crew will be having a fundraising
Pancake Breakfast.
Sunday, February 5 after the
8:00 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. Masses.
In the Parish Hall
Thanks for your support!

Holy Rosary - St. Richard
Carnival
March 9-10-11
|
Dear member of the Holy Rosary St. Richard family, Many of you already know that the Holy Rosary St. Richard Carnival is an annual tradition event that draws a large attendance to our Church and School. It is an occasion that attracts thousands of visitors representing multiple communities of all ages that include current and former school parents, students, alumni, relatives, and friends. This unique event happens only once a year, and at no other time does our school have so many diverse individuals gathered in one place. This year, for the first time ever, we would like to offer businesses and organizations the opportunity to promote themselves with a sponsorship. It is an opportunity not to be missed where you can position your brand name before our diverse school community. As one of the first Catholic schools in South Florida, our community has members of all work sectors that include medical, business, law, banking, technology, industrial, service, and others. In addition, festival participants come from all positions and purchasing power levels, including executive and managerial. A sponsorship will enable your business or organization to reach our broad spectrum of festival participants and will be added to our official Carnival Business Directory. Please take a moment to review the three sponsorship levels on the next page to determine which one is best for you, and return the completed Sponsorship Selection section by February 7th, 2012. Don’t miss out on this unique opportunity to promote and showcase your brand! Please contact Michelle Hatem, Carnival Sponsorship Coordinator, at michelle.hrsr.carnival@gmail.com with any questions or concerns. Cordially, Victor Alvarez Rene Espinosa Victor.hrsr.carnival@gmail.com rene.hrsr.carnival@gmail.com

ARCHBISHOP'S CHARITIES AND DEVELOPMENT DRIVE (ABCD)
Your generosity to the Archbishop’s Charities and Development Campaign, or ABCD, supports the formation of seminarians, priests, and permanent deacons; the Discalced Carmelites Nuns’ prayer ministry; Respect Life; Family Life Ministry; Catholic Schools; Religious Education; Ecclesial Lay Ministry; and the Communications Programs of the Archdiocese of Miami, to include Radio Paz and the Florida Catholic. ABCD also supports Catholic Charities, Catholic Legal Services, Marian Center, Catholic Health Services, MorningStar Renewal Center, the Mission Office and the Migrant Ministry. To ensure that these programs remain vital resources in our community, everyone’s participation is needed. To this effect, the Archdiocese of Miami assigns a set amount of funds to be raised by every parish. Each parish’s goal for 2012 is based on the revenues the parish reported in Fiscal Year 2010.
Our Lady of the Holy Rosary—St. Richard Parish goal for ABCD 2012 is $145,056.00.
The Archdiocesan Assessment is a form of tax that all parishes pay to the Archdiocese of Miami in a calendar year to help maintain the administrative expenses of the Archdiocese, such as the Human Resources Office, Finance Office, and other operational departments, which in turn provide support to the parishes. Holy Rosary-St. Richard’s assessment for 2012 is $89,831.00, payable in 12 monthly installments. Any ABCD funds not raised through our 2012 ABCD parish goal will be added to the Archdiocesan assessment installment due in December of 2012; therefore, increasing our parish’s operating expenses. Likewise, if our parish exceeds its ABCD goal, then all funds raised above the goal will be applied toward the 2013 parish assessment. We will regularly update this column with the funds raised to date through our ABCD parish goal. We invite you to prayerfully consider your support to so many charities and programs and pledge your help to the 2012 ABCD Campaign.

THANK YOU!
Our deepest gratitude goes to Tony and Lillian Chen See of Quality Foliage for their always generous donations of plants for our Sanctuary, especially their two beloved palms that are on the altar, which they grew from a seed ten years ago. We also thank Coraly Maldonado, who gives all our plants lots of TLC every day.

Dear Friend,
Those first few weeks after the death of your loved one (or other major loss) are confusing and hectic. You may encounter myths such as:
1. All grieve the same way.
2. In 2 months your grief is over.
3. Once resolved your grief never returns.
4. You will eventually return to normal.
5. Don’t feel sorry for yourself.
6. Don’t be angry at your loved
one.
7. Protect the children from death
& grief.
8. Relationships end at death.
9. Get over your loss and move on.
10. Grief is defined by predictable stages.
In the months ahead we will explore these myths and learn more about the grieving process together.
If the messages don’t seem to fit right now, lay them aside and reread them at a later time. Many people are praying for you. May you be strengthened by these prayers.
Peace & comfort,
The HRSR Faith Community, Staff. and Bereavement Ministers
