Children are a Blessing!

We welcome you to a great new year of Extended School Care

The information included in this handbook is important for your child’s safety and well being in the Extended School Care Program.  We welcome your suggestions as we all work together to make this a happy and worthwhile experience for both child and family.

The mission of the Holy Rosary - St. Richard Extended School Care Program is to provide excellent Catholic Childcare within a safe academic environment and under the supervision of a caring staff.

Goals and Objectives

·      Our entire staff is privileged to aid in the development of your child’s best characteristics.  The staff recognizes the unique qualities of each child and will work hard to instill the values of the gospel in all we do.

·      Each member of the staff is required to have 40 hour National Early Childhood Program accreditation and CPR training.

Program Activities

The program offers both structured and unstructured activities. Adult supervision is provided while the children play or work together.

·      A typical day in our program for grades K – 8 consists of a thirty to sixty minute study period at which time the children are expected to do their homework or read, while being monitored and assisted by the staff.

·      After homework students are provided with an afternoon snack.

·      After snack there is outdoor physical activity, always supervised by members of the staff.

·      An indoor activity (i.e. crafts, art, music, story time and games) is also provided.

·      PK-2 – 4 the first thirty to sixty minute consists of outdoor physical activity, with songs and games.

·      Videos and music tapes are used sparingly for bad weather and Fridays.

Safety

·      No student is allowed on campus after school without being checked into Extended Care. (Sports are the only exceptions).

·      An accurate record of all students enrolled in the program is necessary in case of an emergency.

·      Parents must come inside to sign their child(ren) out of the program and proceed with a pick-up pass to the classroom.

·      All rules in the students’ handbook apply to E.S.C.

Regulations

·      Only the names that appear on the emergency contact card or parents have written the school a note ahead of time for release of student, will release be granted.  No exceptions!

·      Students are not permitted to use the telephone unless they have an emergency call to make.

·      Same rules apply as in student handbook.

Expectations for Student Behavior

·      Students will understand the rules of the Extended Care Program. Those students unable to conform to the rules may be denied this privilege.

·      Parents attending sports events must keep their children with them for the safety and well being of their children.

·      No cell phones, use of I-Pod, electronic, devices etc.

·      All rules in student handbook apply.

 Accidents/Illness

In cases that appear to be of a minor nature, (band-aid, ice, soap and water etc.)  will be administered on the premises and parents will be notified.

In serious cases we will carry out the instructions on the emergency card or call 911.
